The park that gave the neighborhood its name
Gage Park started as an actual park. In 1873 South Park Commissioner George W. Gage began laying out green space where Western Avenue meets Garfield Boulevard, and after he died in 1875 the park took his name. The neighborhood around it grew up later and kept the name too. A big field house and auditorium went up in the park in 1928, and it’s still the easiest landmark in the area to give a tow driver.
Garfield Boulevard itself starts at Western Avenue. West of that corner, the same road is just 55th Street, which is the road our truck uses to get here.
Where the edges are
The community area runs from 49th Street south to 59th Street, and from Central Park Avenue east to Leavitt Street. Three smaller pockets sit inside it: Marquette Manor, Glendale and Garfield Manor. Most of the housing is bungalows, so a junk car here is likely to be on a side drive, at the curb out front or in a garage behind the house.
On its north edge, the Orange Line runs between Gage Park and Brighton Park, with the Kedzie and Western stations along that stretch (the Western stop is at 49th Street). South of 59th you’re in Chicago Lawn.
One neighborhood, four ZIP codes
Gage Park is split more than most areas we cover. The city’s ZIP boundary map puts the northern half in 60632 and much of the south in 60629, with smaller slices of 60609 and 60636 along the east side. If the ZIP on your mail makes you unsure which neighborhood you’re in, don’t worry about it. We only need the street address and a cross street.
From 79th and Pulaski to Gage Park
The trip is about 4.5 miles. The truck heads north on Pulaski Road for close to three miles, turns east on 55th Street, and follows it for another mile and a half or so into the middle of the neighborhood. The whole run stays on two main city streets.
Bungalow pickups, in practice
A bungalow lot is narrow, so plan the pickup a little.
If the car is in the back garage, the driver will usually come through the alley. Make sure the garage door opens and that bins, bikes or a second car aren’t blocking it. If it’s on a side drive, let us know whether a neighbor’s car tends to park across the end of it. A car at the curb out front is the simplest of all.
Flat tires, a missing battery or a car that hasn’t turned over in years are all normal for us. We buy cars that don’t run and wrecked or totaled cars alike. Keys help, but they’re not required.
A Gage Park car still in a relative’s name
Selling a parent’s car after they move out or pass away takes a little more paperwork. If that’s your situation, read how to junk a car of someone who died in Illinois before you call. The short version: tell us what papers you have, whether that’s a title, a bill of sale, a registration or an insurance card, and we’ll check against Illinois rules on the call which of them can be used.
Things to mention when you describe the spot
Gage Park High School on Rockwell Street has been open since 1939 and also serves students from Chicago Lawn, New City and West Englewood. The park at Western and Garfield is the other big reference point. The two Orange Line stations work for the north end. “Behind the house two blocks west of Gage Park High” will get the driver to the right alley.
Selling, start to finish
Call or send the car’s details online. We make an offer, you pick a pickup time, the driver loads the car, and you’re paid before the truck leaves. Towing is free.
North of 49th Street sits Brighton Park. West of Central Park Avenue is West Elsdon, and south of 59th is Chicago Lawn. See every neighborhood and suburb we cover on the service areas page.

Gage Park questions
Is Gage Park in 60629 or 60632?
Both, plus two more. On the City of Chicago's boundary map, the northern half of Gage Park falls in 60632, most of the southern half is in 60629, and smaller slices on the east side reach into 60609 and 60636. Any of them works for us. The street address is what the driver needs.
Can you get a car out of a bungalow's back garage?
Usually, yes. We tow from the alley or the street, even when the tires are flat. Clear the doorway, make sure the garage door opens, and tell us if the car is wedged tight against a wall so the driver can plan the pull.
How long does the drive to Gage Park take?
The route from 79th and Pulaski is about 4.5 miles: north on Pulaski Road for around three miles, then east on 55th Street. Same-day pickups in Gage Park are often possible when you call early, but traffic and the day's schedule decide the timing, so we can't fix an exact hour.
I'm selling a car that belonged to a relative. What do you need?
Tell us what documents you have and how you're connected to the owner. A title signed by the person on it is simplest. Estates and family sales follow Illinois rules, so we'll talk it through on the phone before booking the pickup in Gage Park.
