Evergreen Park is a small village, just over 3 square miles with about 20,000 residents, and Chicago surrounds it on three sides. Ashburn lies to the north, Beverly to the east, Beverly and Mount Greenwood to the south, with Oak Lawn and Hometown on the west. Masters Cash for Junk Cars buys junk vehicles anywhere inside those lines and tows them free.

The short drive from 79th and Pulaski

This is one of our quickest suburban runs. The truck heads south on Pulaski Road to 95th Street, then turns east, about 3 miles in all. 95th Street (US 12 and US 20) cuts the village in half, and Kedzie Avenue crosses it at what most people treat as the center of town. Western Avenue meets 95th on the east side.

Because the village is so compact, “two blocks south of 95th off Kedzie” usually gets us within sight of the car.

Places locals use to give directions

  • Evergreen Marketplace, at 95th and Western, on the site of the old Evergreen Plaza. The Plaza opened in 1952, closed in 2013, and the Marketplace replaced it in 2018.
  • Little Company of Mary Hospital, at 95th and California, open since 1930.
  • Klein Park, the star-shaped park with eight streets running out from it like spokes. It was laid out to be the town center and later renamed for Mayor Henry Klein.
  • St. Mary’s Cemetery, which dates to 1888.
  • Evergreen Park Community High School, on Kedzie Avenue.

There’s no Metra station in the village. Pace and CTA buses cover it instead.

Mostly houses, mostly owners

Census figures for 2020 to 2024 put about 88% of Evergreen Park’s homes in single-unit buildings, and roughly 85% of households own their place. In practice that means most of our pickups here are from a driveway or a garage. If the car is boxed in, tucked behind a garage or sitting on blocks in the back, our guide on alley, garage and backyard pickups explains what helps the driver.

Evergreen Park’s rules on inoperable and abandoned cars

The current vehicle relocation article comes from a 2023 ordinance. Paraphrased from the Evergreen Park code:

On a street or other public way, a vehicle counts as abandoned when it’s inoperable and left unattended for 10 hours or more, when it’s had no state plates or temporary placard for 2 days or more, or when it hasn’t moved for 7 days and looks deserted.

On private property in public view, the test is 14 days. A car that can’t be driven safely or legally, for example because the engine, wheels or other parts are gone, is an inoperable motor vehicle. One that hasn’t moved for 14 days in a row is presumed inoperable if it’s covered or tarped. Finishing repairs inside 14 days keeps you out of it.

Before police remove a car from private property, the owner gets a “Notice of Intent to Tow” sticker on the window plus a certified letter, and has 7 days after the letter to ask for a hearing. That window is real, but it’s short. If the car is already wrecked or totaled, it’s usually easier to sell it than to argue for it.

Street cleaning and snow

Two more rules matter if the car is on the street. During posted street sweeping you can’t park there, signs go up at least 4 hours in advance, and cars left in the way are towed at the owner’s expense. After 2 inches of snow in 24 hours, parking moves to the even-numbered side of the street on even days and the odd side on odd days, and designated snow routes go no-parking. The village board can also set aside residential permit-parking areas, so read the signs before you leave a dead car out front.

How it works here

Call us or send the details through the get a cash offer page. We’ll ask about the car, its papers and exactly where it’s parked, then give you a number. Pickup is often the same day. There’s no charge for the tow, and payment comes when we collect the car. See our page on free junk car towing for what the driver needs from you.

Just west of the village we also buy cars in Oak Lawn and Hometown, and to the north in Chicago’s Ashburn neighborhood. Everything else we cover is on the service areas list.

Evergreen Park questions

Do I need to return an Evergreen Park vehicle sticker after junking my car?

No. The village discontinued its vehicle stickers in February 2024, so there's nothing local to turn in or cancel. You still need to deal with the state side, which means taking the plates off and following Secretary of State rules for the registration.

My car has a tarp on it in the driveway. Is that a problem in Evergreen Park?

It can be. Under the village's relocation rules, a vehicle that hasn't moved for 14 straight days and is under a cover or tarp is presumed inoperable when it sits on private property in public view. The police can start a removal process after giving notice. Selling it before that starts is simpler.

Can you pick up near Little Company of Mary Hospital?

Yes, but plan the spot. The village code sets no-parking, tow-away zones on 95th Street and California Avenue around the hospital, so the truck can't stop there to load. A driveway or a side-street space a block away works better. Tell us the nearest cross street.

Do you buy cars without a title in Evergreen Park?

Sometimes. Tell us what you have, such as a title, bill of sale, registration or insurance card. Which papers can support a scrap sale is decided by Illinois rules, and we check your situation on the call before anyone drives out. We'd rather say no on the phone than at your curb.
