What we take off Englewood streets and driveways

Masters Cash for Junk Cars buys vehicles that have reached the end of the road. In Englewood that can mean a car that quit running years ago and sits in a side yard, a minivan damaged in a fire, a pickup with a seized engine, or a sedan that got stripped on the street. We buy junk trucks, vans and SUVs along with cars, and keys are optional.

Cars that run well are worth more sold elsewhere, so those aren’t what we buy. This is for vehicles whose next stop is the scrap yard.

Garfield Boulevard to 75th Street

Englewood covers about three square miles. Garfield Boulevard is the north edge and 75th Street the south. On the west, Racine Avenue separates it from West Englewood. The east side is uneven, following the bends of the Metra tracks instead of a single street. Hamilton Park, which shares its name with the park on 72nd Street, is a smaller neighborhood inside it.

The area was much more crowded once. More than 97,000 people lived here in 1960, and the population has dropped a long way since. The area now has a high rate of foreclosed homes. If the car you want gone is at a house in foreclosure, or at a family home after the owner died, the paperwork section below is for you.

From 79th and Pulaski

The drive is about 5.6 miles. Our truck goes east on 79th Street, angles onto Columbus Avenue, takes Western Avenue a short way north, then runs east on 71st Street for about two miles. At Halsted Street it turns north into the heart of Englewood. The Dan Ryan Expressway runs along the neighborhood’s east side, but the truck doesn’t need it to reach you.

Landmarks around Halsted and 63rd

The corner of 63rd and Halsted was once home to the Englewood Shopping Center. Since 2007 that site has been the campus of Kennedy-King College, which includes the Washburne Culinary Institute. The Halsted stop on the Green Line, open since 1906, is right there too. Farther east, the Red Line’s 63rd station sits in the median of the Dan Ryan.

Farther south, Hamilton Park on 72nd Street opened in 1904 as Englewood’s first public park, and the park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Englewood STEM High School, opened in 2019, serves both Englewood and West Englewood. Telling us the car is “a block from Hamilton Park” or “behind the college” gets the driver close fast.

A dead car on the street and the city’s rule

If a car that can’t be driven sits on a public street, the city can treat it as abandoned. Chicago’s abandoned vehicle rules include any vehicle on the public way in such poor shape that it can’t be driven as it is. Anyone can report one by calling 311, and the city’s contractor tows it to a pound. Cars that nobody redeems are sold for scrap.

So a dead car at the curb is on a clock. Selling it to us first means the scrap value goes to you, and the tow is still free.

Papers when the owner isn’t around

Foreclosures and estates make paperwork the main question in many Englewood sales. Tell us what you have: a title, a bill of sale, a registration, an insurance card. Illinois rules control which of those work for a scrap sale, and we’ll go through it with you before we schedule anything. Our guide on junking the car of someone who died explains the common situations, and the page on junk cars without a title covers missing titles.

Once the papers are sorted, the sale is short: we agree on an offer, the driver loads the car, and you’re paid on the spot. Start by phone or request an offer online.

Directly west across Racine is West Englewood, which we also cover. For the rest of the Southwest Side and nearby suburbs, see our service areas.

Englewood questions

What ZIP code is Englewood in?

Nearly all of Englewood is in 60621, according to the City of Chicago's ZIP boundary map, with only tiny edges in neighboring codes. If your mail says 60636, you're probably in West Englewood, across Racine Avenue. We buy junk cars on both sides.

The car is at a house that's in foreclosure. Can I still sell it?

Possibly. The car and the house are separate, so what matters is who owns the car and what papers they hold. Tell us whose name is on the title and what documents you have. Illinois rules decide whether the sale can go ahead, and we check that on the call before sending a truck.

Can you pick up near Kennedy-King College or the Halsted Green Line stop?

Yes. Both sit around 63rd and Halsted, and Halsted Street is the last leg of our route from Ashburn. Give us the exact address or the nearest corner, and say whether the car is on the street or in a driveway.
